Created page with 'Dear LazyWeb: which CHDK capable cameras can record movies and photos interchangeably from a triggering script? Dear UtopiWeb: is there a consumer camera which can be triggered ...'

New page

Dear LazyWeb: which CHDK capable cameras can record movies and photos interchangeably from a triggering script?

Dear UtopiWeb: is there a consumer camera which can be triggered over usb to record photos and videos to its memory card with a linux command-line? It seems all drivers in gphoto2 only support photo triggering and capture. :( oh and it has to take decent pictures and videos, here aiptek is on the low treshold, i'd prefer it to be a digital still camera (fotoaparat) with a decent movie mode. I looked far and wide, but not found one so far.

Camera options:

Canon A590IS (or similar)
+ [http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK CHDK]
+ [http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/USB_Remote_Cable USB Remote trigger] : hackable, good lens, low video compression, power in, usb remote is a bit of a hack

[http://www.aiptek.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ZHD11X&Category_Code=HDC&Store_Code=AS AIPTEK Action-HD GVS] : ir full-featured remote, cheap(?) lens, cheap(?) encoder, lightweight

Some Canon IXUS + CHDK + USB Remote trigger : hackable, real lens, smallest, power in is a hack

Elphel Linux Camera : could replace the router and camera with one clean beautiful unit, but it is expensive
